I watched Memoirs Of A Geisha today. My erwartungshorizont(level of expectation) wasn't high initially coz I thought oh no a movie about a woman going into geisha-hood and the boring stories of her life.Never did I expect a great insight into the geisha world and a very sweet love story. And oh ya I cried so that means it's quite good la.But please don't laugh, the love story is horribly sweet.I'm glad though I didn't read the book coz many were saying it doesn't do justic to the book. But from where I'm standing,I would give it a two thumbs up.Coz the plot was interesting, the scenes were magnificient. But I am disturbed by the ritualistic aspect of the movie.I'm not blaming the movie.Coz it is a true mirror to the real rituals.I'm amazed by the irony in the geisha world.Mameha said that geisha is not about being a courtesan,it's about selling their skill yet to be a true geisha, one must let her mizuage(virginity) be bidded and give it to the highest bidder.Talk about irony.

The downside of the movie though would be Zhang Zi Yi's accent. That's chinese accent Zi Yi,not Japanese. And Mameha's hair looked so dyed. It's these few things that are giving the audinece different signs.they should have given attention to these minor sign system coz it could do much significant.

Haha,i'm sounding very theatre here....It's not that different...screen and stage except for the spontaniety of the stage

Talking about theatre,my performance would be on the 14th and 16th Feb NUS AS5/0309 6.30pm.Haha.Come and support me and for good cause(I think it's for AWARE charity) ya.It's just a small menial play.It probably last for 30minutes only. But if the script are approved,it would be 80% mine...so ya,be my critic.haha
