Yesterday I went to watch Man of Letters at UCC,a romantic musical,the first by Dick Lee,courtesy of NUS in conjunction with our centinel celebration.Yes I'm doing free advertorial for school.Haha.Talked about loyalty(actually bcoz I got the tix free,so cannot be stingy,must publicise la).
The play was nice.Set in 1955 in the University Of Malaya(now NUS) alongside the unrest and turmoil lies a sweet(but somehow cliche) triangle love story.Two friends,Ming and Gan Seng like Roseanne.Considering he's a nerd and Gan Seng is the man girls loves to fall for,he decided to not pursue his love and instead helped Gan Seng pursue Roseanne through letters(which is why the play is called Man of Letters).The letters was so sweet.It really just bring you back to when writing on papers and shyness is regarded as romantic.It was really romantic.I like.I want my own Man of Letters.Yeah dream big Siti.But hey if Kate can dream big and marry Tom Cruise eventually.Why can't I?
OK ok so back to the play.My erwartungshorizont was really high for this play.Because mainly it involved who's who in the arts industry.Dick Lee,Emma Yong,Karim Ghani,Samantha Foo,R.J Rosales.So I was really expecting a lot.And don't get me wrong,the who's who does live up to my expectation though I would expect better diction for some of the songs.The chorus was masyaAllah.Wrong steps,wrong keys,wrong pitch.But I would give them the benefit of the doubt coz it is afterall the opening night.Jitters and nerve probably got the best of them.Overall,the mise-en-scene was great,the plot is a bit cliche but netherless quite romantic and I like it.
I like the theatre.Something inside me just yearning to be on stage too when i go for all these plays.I really really like the spontaneity and liveliness of theatre.Shucks.why can't theatre be a lucrative industry in Singapore.Not that I'm implying i'm materialistic but rather realistic.I have a mom to take care of,you know.
Oh the stage,the lights,the music.Gosh I miss theatre class.
But I'm not feeling very theatrical right now coz I'm SICK!The flu bug is yet here again.Bugger...no pun intended.I have sore throat which is further worsened due to my toncilitis.So my throat feels like burning sensation.My nose is partially blocked.And I'm feeling feverish.The first step to a full blown flu bug epidemic raging in my body.Shoo bug shoo!
