Do you know what handphone do to you? It makes you alienated. Who can honestly say they have been talking to a friend on a phone for hours and hours like they used to back in secondary days ,where we all know we don't own any telecommunication devices...well minus the pager. I'll be the first, I don't. And I realised it's quite sad. Handphones and smsing has taken the human aspect out of communication and I'm feeling the effects now, especially after being on the phone with Jo for 2 hours yesterday. Instead of bringing us together, telecommunication has quite alienate us from each other. Sad isn't it? But I'm not saying it's all that bad. At least with such thing called internet and msn, we get to communicate with someone faraway..like France per se.Calling is way too expensive...so if msn allows you to communicate at a way way way cheaper cost...Why not, right? Haha...I'm saying this coz yesterday I talkedmsned to Ben and it was funny la...him trying to say good evening in Malay but ended up typing selamat minoume.Ape ntah minoume pun aku tak tau la. Anyway it was a funny day. At first, I was hell modern telecommunications is alienating me and at another moment I was like thank goodness for modern telecommunication. And he was at the mountain alps...So don't you feel grateful for modern telecommunications at times?
Point is....we always have to remember to take modernity with a pinch of salt. If it's alienating you from people who barely lived a few kilometres away from you...like me(coz I'm the SMS Queen)..then you know what to do. Pick up the phone once in a while.Let that human aspects resonates from your conversation. But at the same time, don't alienate yourself from modernity coz run as you might, it is part of our life now.
I feel so Durkheim.
