Are credit cards necessary?

I mean...so what you have credit cards.. Ok so it's a symbol of your "status" but with 15% interest...to hell with status. I'm happy with my debit cards...coz it works like a credit card... but it also works at the same time to remind me don't go sign-sign any oh how coz it's subtracting every cents from my bankbook.So why not...get a debit card. It has a Mastercard logo there..so hey why not I say.
