The booth..check out the bunga manggar. I am so proud of myself. The bunga manggar kickass. A kid came over and even asked for one. So cute.
The table with the goodies

which include a foldable cloth fan. The best idea of all coz 1) it is hot 2) it is even hotter at the forum which has no air conditioning 3) well I am always hot wat.
and the kuih. The talam ubi is super nice ok.

And there's us
camwhoring...I meant mending the booth and answering question for our beloved freshmen to be. LOL.
Dr Al-Atas, Dr Suriani and Dr Jan at work.
Interested freshman.
Ok the rest you know la eh...camwhoring la..ape lagi babe.

With the kumpang boys
And here the kumpang boys playing the congkak which I kindly lugged from home. By the way I was the champion of the champion in MSS. LOL
Did you see the boys at the backdrop. Tsk no wonder they were smiling when we are done with taking the photo.

I had fun la though I was really tired at the end of the day. I was supposed to leave at 2.30 but stayed on till 6 for the packing up coz I was too lazy to go home and go out again.
Coz after the event was...

One word: LOVE!
Didn't take any photo prior to the show coz we were late. But what can I say..great props, great erwartungshorizont, great lighting. Although I was a bit pissed off with the sound system at first, coz sometimes I cant really make out what the leads are talking about when they're having their dialogue or monologues.Chorus was fantastic though. Songs were great ,though I have to say to have contemporary pop/ballad songs, which sounds quite commercial as well, for a musical set in the 50s is a bit disapppointing. However the great works of P.Ramlee was executed magnificiently. It brings tears to hear his songs like Azizah and watnots. Oh and Liza Hanim playing Saloma kickass ok. She may not sound as good as Saloma. But damn that woman is still good yo. The guy who played P.Ramlee executed his role very well also. I like how he stayed true to the small subtle quirks and moves P.Ramlee has.You know those hands movement the Allahyarhama has... the shake of the hips or legs. But I thought singing wise, he should not exagerate too much to sound like P.Ramlee, coz let's face it...these legendary actors-cum-singers...there can only be one of them.Evergreen. No cetak rompak ok. The actress who played Norizan(P.Ramlee's 2nd wife) has a lisp though. I was so irritated by her lisp, I couldn't really pay attention to how well she sings but acting wise...well being an actress on RTM has definitely hone her skill.Overall, I thought the singing and acting has been very well executed and memorable to say the least.
But being seated at circle 2 level 3, made me even more motivated to start work soon so that I can buy a better seat next time for any musical or play. Coz face it, when you're so far away and you can hardly make out the faces of the actors, the enjoyment factor is definitely affected. Ouh and problem is also because you are seated among people who..you know... don't really go for plays that much, they treat the place like a cinema. I saw potato chips ok...potato chips in a musical.*shakes head* And God they were couples everywhere... sebelah couple, depan couple..they think it's the cinema is it, hands all over each other..sigh, belakang a family who brought a kid who sometimes made stupid comment and ask stupid questions. When I am in a musical, can these people please fucking be considerate coz though I didn't fork out that much, I still would like to enjoy the musical very much ok.
But its ok..Siti cool...coz the play was really good. I think P.Ramlee is truly a Malay hero. I mean, despite his flaws and vices, he is the epitome of how Malays should be, work wise and in terms of chasing what one wants. I mean hello, he pioneered the idea of a Malay director. And boy was he a multi-tasker. He composed songs, he write the scripts, he direct, he produced and he acts! Sape cakap Melayu bodoh, sape cakap Melayu pemalas, sape cakap Melayu takde wawasan. Tengok sendiri la ape yang depan mata. It ties very much with the booth today with how we are explaning to the freshies about Malay studies modules. I keep telling them that never take whatever that is said about Malays just like that. Remember to take it with a lot of salt, coz seriously it's never that simple and clear cut. It's just us who likes to think so, just because we forget - alpa dan leka untuk memertabatkan bangsa sendiri, diri sendiri.
Now I am excited to take the film studies module in the honour year.
P.Ramlee the musical. Lovesit!
Boy this weekend has definitely been a great one. A great escape from being stuck at home coughing my lungs out. Great and hmm interesting...interestingly weird. Haha.. All I can say is laughing is my defence mechanism(amongst many others). You see its like chess. There's the queen and there's her horses, guards and castle. She is protected. Take these away and the wrong moves will result in checkmate. But I am glad we talked. And I am kinda relieved in a way that I did asked some of the questions and said what I wanted to say as well. So ya...
Lovely weekend so far. And there's still geylang for mum's early birthday celebration and laksa with Peejay Peejot today.
Can my weekends be any more kickass than this?
