I like my family GP, Dr Tong. He is very very nice. I like him a lot. One, because he has yet forced my mum to go to hospital. As some of you may know, my mum has a severe case of varicose ulcer and I do mean SEVERE. But time and time again, though pleading with my mum to go to hospital, he relented and continue to treat my mum at his clinic. Very nice. He never give up on my mum, unlike those who just submit to the pressure and told us to just go to the hospital. I know going to the hospital is the best option for my mum but da orang tu tak nak...ape nak buat. I can only afford to plead with her nicely and slowly. InsyaAllah one day I will get her to the hospital for a proper treatment.
Two, he is a very nice doctor to talk to. He never fails to ask me how I am if he thinks I look a bit off, eventhough I am not the patient for that visit. And he also allows me to ramble with him about my illness(es). You see, the polyclinic doctors are very good at running tests and when they do get the result, they are equally well at being the bearer of bad news. Ok I know bad news is inevitable sometimes but what I hate about them is that they hardly take the time to explain what exactly the tests are for and what the results mean exactly. It's always "oh you got low levels of thyroid"... and I have to sit there like a do-ngong listening in and waiting for the next sentence. It never came. So, many times I have to go... "and so?". At the very least tell me la what does low thyroid entails or the causes or something...Sigh. So with Dr Tong, I always go to him whenever I get back some of the results and he will gladly explain to me what every single thing means(again eventhough it was my mum who is the patient during that visit and not me) and trust me I asked a lot. It pays to be aware of your own illness(es) you know. Like today I asked him I found out I have low level of thyroids, is this the one causing me to sweat excessively because according to the little knowledge I have, I know it's supposed to be hyperthyroid and not the opposite. He told me there are 3 reasons for excessive sweating. One, hyperthyroid but since I am having the opposite, we can rule that out. Two, I could have excitable nerves..Yes he said excitable..Dr Tong has a very unique way of describing medical conditions. Once he told me I have juicy toncils.Haha. Ok back to excitable nerves... so yeah he said with that kind of condition, normally an operation to remove the nerves is possible...Err ok..I think I shall stick to the last plausible reason which is due to stress. Hmm I won't exactly say I have been too stressed out... but I guess maybe subconsciously whatever that has been happening this past year might have been bugging me...who knows...I am so good at keeping stuff in sometimes, I hardly recognised I'm breaking down...Coz looking back, I know I sweat considerably a lot my whole life( I think sweating comes with fat people..haha), but sweating THIS much is really quite recent... it's scary sometimes at how much I sweat my body away. Coz I can get really cold on the outside to the point of being cold to touch but I still feel like I need a fan in front of me. So yeah... Allahualam la eh.. I just hope whatever causing me to sweat this much will go away soon.
Oh and three, Dr Tong gives good long MC...hahaha.
You should meet Dr Tong, besides being nice, he has got to be one of the most candid doctor also. Always making jokes and his face, ya Allah, tak le maintain seh. Very emotive.
And no, I am not having a crush on my doctor.. haha.. I am just saying, as a doctor, I respect him a lot. He is truly one of the best doctor I have seen. Medically and personally.
