Went to watch 2 shows this week and I think I want to make a review of some sort...So bear with me. I am not good with words but that hey, at least I tried.
Watched Angels and Demons on Thursday. Alone. Heh Heh yes I would like to emphasis on the alone coz this is my first time. I know its no big deal but I think watching a movie in a cinema alone is very daunting. Coz first of all, the lady who sold me the tickets actually asked me for 15 bucks and I just yelp at her, involuntarily of course. She thought I am buying tix for 2. Then, when I got into the cinema, I realised she put me right next to this couple. Gee thanks. There's couple next to me, 2 couples in front of me. Thank you for rubbing it in my face that I am watching this Alone. Then 15 minutes into the show, another couple? father-daughter duo? came in. The older guy was too old I think coz it was that dark for him, he actually stumbled on the stairs and fell down with a loud thud. Then he ramble on and on in chinese where, where while his lady companion was shouting at him, here here here. Ok so I thought that should be all with this 2...but noooo... they were talking during the show, loudly, like talking at the coffee shop kind of talk. The lady didn't off her handphone so it rang during the movie and she picked it up. EGAD! And when people in front of her moved to seats at the front and we kept shushing at them, she has this pissed like why the fuck are you guys shushing me look on her face. Fucking irritating...
Ok that is so besides the point. I am supposed to review on the movie, aren't I? But before I go on, I think, though I may start to like doing things alone...watching movie alone is still not very high up in my list. It creeps me out. Anyhoo....
The movie was ok. I tried coming into the cinema with no expectation. To appreciate the movie as it is. I think I managed to do that for the 1st half. But nearing the ending, I can't help but feel disappointed. As much as I don't want to compare the movie with the book but the decision to totally changed the ending is very disheartening. I kept replaying what little I remember from the book and compare it with the movie. If you read the book but hadn't watched the movie , you might wanna look away. The decision to let the 4th preferreti lives is a huge shift from the original story plot. As I said, they totally change the ending. Because the 4th preferreti lives, they omitted the part where Vittoria was kidnapped and Langdon faked his own drowing..yada yada yada. Camerlengo did not find out who his real father was nor did he die at the St Peter's Square in the full view of the people and the cardinals. The irritating red haired american newscaster was also not included in the movie. Nor did Langdon ride in the helicopter with Camerlengo while trying to save Vatican City. I know it's not possible to fit in everything within a 2 hours movie but do they really need to change the ending that drastically? The movie is still quite cool, I feel. But if you read the book, you are bound to be disappointed.
Next up was the play Much Ado About Nothing.
Funny story. On the way to the Spa place after Sentosa on wednesday, I was a bit bored in the bus. So I listened to 91.3 on the radio and was hoping to join the win an acer laptop contest. But the chances of me winning that draw is quite slim actually so when I heard there's free tix to this play, I jumped in. But of course, the questions were..name 3 shakespearean plays. I only know Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. But lucky for me, I've been listening to the same radio show for the past week at the same time. So I've heard some of the answers from the previous winners. So happily I answered Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Merchant of Venice. No idea what the hell is the Merchant of Venice though, but I won...so yeah me. Jothi was a bit startled when I told her I won the tix and invited her to join me. In her own words, " I just slept for like 1 minute and you won tix huh". Hehe...What can I say..I'm a fast worker.
So what about the play? Well...it's a Shakespearean play so I wouldn't want to dabble much coz we all know how much of a English lit idiot I can be. But I really enjoyed it...though understanding every line is a bit of a struggle. I think the idea of watching it in a park, under the stars is truly amazing, though I can't speak the same for my legs. I totally messed up who is who in the play in the beginning. Like, how I thought Claudio is Claudia , the female lead only to realise her name is Hero in the play. Yes, very smart of me. Like would Shakespear really use the name Claudia in his play. I am totally in love with the character Benedict(?) I think Adrian Pang is a really good actor. I like smart actors like him. Even when he was playing the uncouth and fake ghost hunter in Maggie and Me, I still think he acted with much gusto and intelligence. Me thinks we need more actors like him in Singapore, ye?
The weather though. It is in the fricking park la for goodness sake, at night somemore but man was I sweating like crazy. I hope this crazy ass weather will subside soon. Global warming blows.
I am still itching to watch more plays and more movies... I still have 3 weeks more till work beckons... So people....amacam? Heh Heh Heh.
p.s 23rd june is coming soon..if you know what I mean. =)
